Things I've Learned From Copyediting, No. 4


Here is another example of where a hyphen is rather important. Today I'm editing academic work in the field of education:

" ... some small school principals are aware of the problem"

Without the hyphen in "small-school" I am picturing a 4-ft person behind a large desk in the school office!

I'm taking a medical editing course online, caring for Kai full time, editing two novels, making my way through editing eight journal issues, and looking for a house to purchase. So I haven't had much time to post here, if you can't tell.
