Well, I was actually able to write one new poem for the poetry reading down south. It seemed to work pretty well, but I'd like to work on the ending before I send it out anywhere. It is about the Egyptian view of things that one needs in the afterlife. I am happy with it, especially because it is not a depressing, dark one. :)
My featured reading was so great, and everyone was very nice. I was treated so well there, and a good number of people were there to hear me. I talked with many nice people, and many of those said that they were interested in my focus on science in my work. It made me feel that I should work more on those types of poems, as they seem to grab attention and translate well. One man suggested that I read a book called The Fabric of the Cosmos. It does sound interesting. (He said it is better that the books by "that British guy.") The bookstore reminded me of a cool person's basement: lots of used hard covers everywhere, and lots of coffee. :) I hope to stay in touch with that group and share poetry events, etc.
I received my advances of the Sierra Nevada College Review issue, and I am really impressed with the look of it for a small issue. Very stylish. And so fast! But now that I have had these contacts through publishing in small area places, I am interested in sending more work out to places around here. If that one poem got me this past reading, maybe local publications could get me more local responses. I do have a reading in Sept. locally now thanks to word of mouth, so that is nice. I'm thinking of sending out a few fiction pieces that are floating around to see if they bring about anything too.
I am also plotting out a crappy novel collaboration that involves a young woman who may or may not be bisexual and a witch and a night student. What the hell. I want to get into this fiction thing after working on these amazing romance paperbacks.
Still working nights on freelance, enjoying the projects and income but looking forward to the point when I can work more on writing. I keep telling myself, once I buy a place, once I buy a place ...
